Caveats and Limitations
Starting in 2009, estimates of poverty for ages 5-17 for the District of Columbia (DC) are obtained from the county model, instead of the state model. For poverty of the other age groups and for median household income, estimates for DC are still obtained from the state model.

Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE)
The U.S. Census Bureau, with support from other Federal agencies, created the Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) program to provide more current estimates of selected income and poverty statistics than those from the most recent decennial census.
MethodologyEstimates are created for school districts, counties, and states.
