CDC needs Pickens County residents for survey

Anderson Independent-Mail - 3/2/2017

March 02--The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention needs Pickens County residents to participate in a national health survey.

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey gathers data on public health issues across the country.

"The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for more than 55 years has provided important information on major diseases, risk factors for diseases, and the relationship between nutrition and overall health of all people living in the United States," said Matt Petrofes, health director for DHEC's Upstate Region, in a CDC news release.

"More than 5,000 people across the country will participate this year, and approximately 343 of them will be from Pickens County," Petrofes said.

Participants will be paid up to $125 for time and travel, and get free health and nutrition screenings. The examinations will run through April.

Participants will be selected at random, and include all ages, races, and ethnicities. They start with a health interview in their home, followed by a health examination in a mobile exam center. No medical care will be provided, but participants will see the results of their exams.
