Remembering Dorchester

A new bond issue for Dorchester County was the subject last night as the county commissioners met in Annapolis with the county's legislators to discuss enabling legislation.

At yesterday's meeting of the county commissioners, it was stated that a bond issue of around $750,000 is believed necessary to renovate the courthouse, furnish the county office building, provide for solid waste disposal, carry out a bridges and roads program and contribute toward a new health department office.

A tentative breakdown looks like this: Courthouse renovation, $100,000; complete and furnish the office building, $275,000; health department, $150,000; bridges and roads, $100,000 to $150,000; and possibly $75,000 to $100,000 for a solid waste disposal program.

At the end of this year, the county's bonded indebtedness is expected to stand slightly over $5 million.
