New administrator proposed for public health

Clarinda Herald-Journal - 4/18/2018

Page County Board of Supervisors met Jessica Erdman Tuesday, April 10 who has been proposed as the new administrator of Page County Public Health.

Accompanied by Darin Sunderman, who has assisted the department, he said the public health board has not yet formally approved Erdman but is expected to do so in the near future.

Since Angie Hakes resigned from the position earlier this year, the board of health had considered two different positions in the future; one for administrative and the other for clinical duties. Sunderman said that concept did not develop which made the board find someone to oversee both responsibilities.

Supervisors met with Golden Hills Resource Conservation and Development communication director Tina Bakehouse.

Golden Hills provides assistance for communities to increase and improve cultural and conservation projects that benefits its members. The non-profit organization works with Page, Cass, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Pottawattamie and Shelby counties.

The supervisors each told Bakehouse of some Page County projects Golden Hills could help with including the proposed expansion of walking trails in Clarinda and Shenandoah. Supervisors also told her about the idea of adding access points to the Nodaway and Nishnabotna rivers in certain locations of Page County. The access points will make it easier for people to reach the river's banks for recreation purposes.

An access point is planned near the East Washington Street bridge over the Nodaway on Clarinda's east side once the new bridge is complete.

Supervisors tabled reviewing bids until May for a new pickup for secondary roads. Supervisors are reviewing the budget for other equipment needs for the department.
