BRIEF: Lewis County Public Health Promotes Breastfeeding Awareness

The Chronicle - 8/4/2018

Aug. 04--Lewis County Public Health and Social Services has focused the month of August on "promoting breastfeeding's health benefits for both mother and child," the department said in a release.

The effort coincides with the World Health Organization's 26th World Breastfeeding Week, which runs from Aug. 1-7. The county agency said breastfeeding "helps mothers with birth spacing, and reduces risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Advantages for babies include lower risk for respiratory infections, ear infections, eczema, asthma, diarrhea, and childhood obesity."

Public Health and Social Services offers education and support though the Women, Infants and Children program, with breastfeeding classes and consultations.
